The information below is relevant to a Fall or Spring start term not a Summer start. All Summer orientation questions can be addressed through the Academic Advising Center.
What is OAR?
The Orientation, Advising and Registration (OAR) Session is a very important step in your preparation for college life at Richland. During your OAR Session you will meet other new students, administrators, faculty and current Richland students, take a tour of the campus, participate in academic advising, and register for your classes.
Do I have to attend an OAR Session?
You are required to attend an OAR Session if you have not earned college credits prior to enrolling at Richland, or are not a Richland Collegiate High School, dual credit, Emeritus, or Multicultural Center student.
What do I need to do before I attend OAR?
Step 1: Admit
Fill out the online application.
Step 2: Submit Official High School Transcript and/or Test Scores
Bring or mail official high school transcript and any test scores to:
Admissions & Student Records
12800 Abrams Road
Dallas, TX 75243-2199
Step 3: Assess for College Readiness
Once you’ve been admitted, go to www.richlandcollege.edu/tsi to determine what test(s) you may need to take. You must either take the necessary assessment tests in reading, writing, math and computer literacy or present SAT, ACT, STAAR, or TAKS test scores to the Admissions Office that are high enough to exempt you from testing.
Step 4: Sign Up
After you complete the college readiness assessment process and show proof of your meningitis vaccination, you may sign up for an OAR session. Go to www.richlandcollege.edu/oar
Is there a cost to attend OAR?
No, OAR is FREE!
What should I bring to OAR?
You will be required to present a photo ID. If you do not bring it with you, you will have to reschedule your OAR Session. If you already know what classes you would like to take at Richland, bring your intended list of courses with you.
Can my family members attend?
You may invite one guest, however, we will not be able to accommodate children under the age of 16. There is no special programming for guests.
Do I have to stay the whole time for OAR? What if I come late or leave early?
Yes, you must attend the entire session. If you do not stay the whole time or arrive more than 5 minutes late, you will be required to reschedule your OAR session.
Where do I go for my OAR Session?
The OAR sessions are held in SH117. View the Richland campus map.
