Mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity
Before you take the TSI Assessment, you must participate in a Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA). Richland College is required to provide the Pre-Assessment Activity, as well as, document your participation. Therefore, it is very important that you complete this activity before you take the test. You will not be allowed to take the TSI Assessment until you have completed this activity, and your participation has been verified by the Dual Credit Advisor. The Pre-Assessment Activity includes the following information:
- An explanation of the importance of the TSI Assessment;
- Practice test questions and feedback;
- An explanation of all your developmental education options, if you don’t meet the minimum passing standard; and
- Information on campus and community resources that will help you succeed as a college student
If you are TSI exempt based upon qualifying SAT, ACT, STAAR EOC, or 11th grade TAKS scores or received a TSI exception waiver, you are not required to complete the PAA.
Q: How do I complete the mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity?
Answer: The Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) must be completed prior to taking the initial TSI Assessment in the Richland College Testing Center or participating high school at the designated testing session coordinated by your high school counselor. The PAA is accessible from any computer with Internet access through eConnect.
eConnect is a web interface that provides students access to their student records with any of the colleges of the Dallas County Community College District. eConnect can be located by clicking on the link, Online Tools, from the Richland College website: www.richlandcollege.edu. Students will have access to view a Pre-Assessment Video from the Current Credit Student Menu, but will be required to certify their participation by logging into their eConnect account to complete the Pre-Assessment Quiz.
Students will need to setup their eConnect accounts after completing their online Admissions Application for High School Students with their student ID number, birthdate, email address, and last name. If you do not have your student ID number, please contact the Dual Credit office by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Q: How do I schedule the TSI Assessment after completing the PAA?
Answer: Students may take the TSI Assessment in the Richland College Testing Center in Medina Hall or at their local high school. If the student is taking the TSI Assessment in the Testing Center, the student will need a test referral provided by the Dual Credit Advisor and a photo ID. Test Referrals can be obtained when you turn in your completed application packet to the Richland College Dual Credit office in Crockett Hall C192. If the TSI Assessment is offered at your high school, the high school counselor will schedule the exam when the application packet is completed. All students must complete the Pre-Assessment Activity prior to taking the initial TSI Assessment. In other words, you will not be allowed to take the TSI Assessment until you have completed the PAA and your participation has been verified by the Dual Credit Advisor.
After you have completed the TSI Assessment in the Richland College Testing Center, it is your responsibility to contact your Dual Credit Advisor in person or by email to verify your test scores. Students are not approved to register for Dual Credit/Concurrent courses until your scores are confirmed by the Dual Credit Advisor.
It is suggested to turn in your completed Dual Credit application, certify your participation in the Pre-Assessment Activity, and assess early in order to allow yourself time to test and/or retest, but prior to your high school’s deadline for submission of qualification scores to the Dual Credit program for course registration.
