CVS – American Apprenticeship Program
Apply Now to Enroll in the Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program!
Our Community Pharmacy Technician program has partnered with CVS Health and the Department of Labor for an Apprenticeship program to meet the high demand for pharmacy technicians in the DFW Metropolitan area.
What does a Pharmacy Technician Do?
Pharmacy Technicians assist pharmacists and interact with patients in person (retail) and over the phone (PBM-call center). Techs maintain patient’s profiles, and various prescriptions from health care providers. Technicians are also responsible for maintaining stock and keeping accurate inventory of prescription and over-the-counter medications.
You can find out more information about Pharmacy Technician Career Pathway on the District website
Here’s How It Works
- STEP 1: Learn
An apprenticeship starts with pre-apprentice classroom-based instruction and unpaid externship hours in a CVS Retail Pharmacy.
- STEP 2: Earn
Enter the CVS paid apprenticeship period during which an individual fulfills on the job training requirements.
- STEP 3: Succeed!
To complete an apprenticeship, a person must complete pre-apprenticeship classroom instruction, externship, and all required on-the-job apprenticeship hours.
There are two program options, for which tuition and expenses are covered by the Apprenticeship Grant:
- Community Pharmacy Pre-Apprenticeship (for individuals not currently PTCB Certified)
- 14 weeks of classroom-based instruction, 4 weeks of pre-apprenticeship externship in a CVS Health Retail pharmacy location, then paid apprenticeship hours.
- Pharmacy Benefits Management Pre-Apprenticeship (for individuals who are PTCB Certified)
- 8 weeks of classroom-based instruction, followed by paid apprenticeship hours in a CVS Health Pharmacy Benefits Management Center.
