Michael Wells comes to Richland College from Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas. Coach Wells started the women’s basketball program at NU. After a difficult first year, the Lady Knights doubled their win total in the second season. In 2014, Northwood University ceased their undergraduate programs forcing the program to close.
Prior to Northwood, Coach Wells was the Head Coach at Lamar Community College in Colorado. In three seasons Coach Wells won more games than any other coach in program history, leading his team to the post-season tournament each year, and coaching the program’s first ever, First team All-Region player.
Prior to LCC, Coach Wells was the Head Coach at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas for four years. During this time, he became the programs winningest coach never winning fewer than 16 games, and leading the program to back-to-back 21 win seasons.
Other coaching stops for Coach Wells was as Recruiting Coordinator at St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania helping the program to the most wins in their history and their highest seeding ever in the NCAA Division I tournament. Coach Wells was also Head Coach at Ranger College, Grayson County College and an Assistant Coach at Texas A&M-Commerce.
Coach Wells is from Dallas, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas A&M-Commerce. He is married to Krystal, and has sons Casey, Zachary, Logan and daughter, Landry.
