Student Navigators

The first year in college is the most difficult for many potential and new AAPI students because they lack basic knowledge about the environment. Students need proactive coaching and advising to help them focus on gaining the skills to pass credit courses, and to encourage them to make good decisions in a new, unfamiliar environment. Without attentive advising to help them “interpret” and “navigate” the situation, these students are often lost to such major environmental changes and resulting frustrations before they give themselves and college a chance.

As Student Navigators we work to identify AAPI students in the high school and community as well as current students who could benefit from our support. AANAPISI Student Navigators are equipped with the appropriate resources needed to help AAPI students navigate college. We work with multiple departments on campus to connect students based on their needs such as the World Languages, Cultures and Communications, Honors Academy, and the Office of Student Life. Our goal is to help eliminate as many barriers to ensure students a smoother transition from high school and onto the 4-year school or employment. Student Navigators are your point of contact, academic advisors, guidance counselors, transfer counselors, and overall an advocate for your success.
